RESET... 4 THINGS ABOUT FASTING
I recently participated in a weekend fast. I have never fasted for over 24 hours, so when a friend invited me to fast for 3 days, I knew this was going to be a stretch for me. Honestly, I didn’t think I could do it. BUT, I did it!!!! I got by with a little help from my friends.
Here is what God taught me:
1) My whole heart was involved
2) My soul was cleansed
3) My brokenness over sin
4) My mourning of our depravity before God
Joel 2:12, Even now – this is the Lord’s declaration – turn to me with all your heart, with fasting, weeping and mourning.
My favorite part of this fasting process was the time that we spent talking about life. Listening to each other’s needs, desires and goals in our relationship with God. Each person was asked to prepare a devotion for the group. I loved hearing from each friend what God has been teaching them or what He laid on their hearts to share.
We quickly realized that we find ourselves off track in our relationship with God because of our everyday distractions. When you are away from the everyday grind, it is so much easier to focus on what is really important. We all had this issue in common. We need to work on more time with Jesus.
I want to encourage you to practice a “reset” at least once a year. It was good for my soul.
